Simpson remains patient, shoots 68

KAPALUA, Hawaii — The man in front of Webb Simpson on the leaderboard produced eight birdies and one eagle on Saturday.

The man behind Simpson produced six birdies and back-to-back eagles on the last two holes.

Simpson himself produced six birdies, which obviously is nothing to sneeze out. But considering that Steve Stricker shot 63 and Kevin Na shot 64, Simpson probably felt like he was losing some ground.

Indeed, during a stretch from the eighth hole to the 14th, Simpson had nary a birdie while also suffering his first bogey of the day. But he didn’t panic.
